A seminar and an exhibition inauguration dedicated to heroic activities of the “Red Orchestra” in the time of the Second World War took place on 6 December 2011 in the European Parliament in Brussels.

Representatives of veteran and Jewish organisations, members of the European Parliament and diplomatic corps in Belgium took part in the event. Dr. Natalia Narochnitskaya, President of the Historic Perspective Foundation, Head of the Paris branch of the Institute for Democracy and Cooperation was a keynote speaker. Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov, Permanent Representative of Russia to the EU, as well as the UK and German Ambassadors, delivered welcome addresses.

The seminar and the exposition became important events for preserving the memory of the Second World War and countering neo-Nazi and radical extremist manifestations in Europe.

The “Red Orchestra” network combined the efforts of intelligence officers and resistance fighters in a number of West European countries during the war. Their information contributed a lot to the victory over fascism.

The Russian Mission to the EU is grateful to all organizations and individuals who contributed to organizing the event.
