Reply by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich to a media question concerning the ban on entry into Russia for Member of the European Parliament for Latvia Sandra Kalniete

Question: How would you comment on the fact that Member of the European Parliament for Latvia Sandra Kalniete, who arrived in Moscow to attend the funeral of Boris Nemtsov, was denied entry into the Russian Federation?

Alexander Lukashevich: Ms Kalniete is actually banned from entering Russia because of her anti-Russian activity as part of the response to the EU’s actions against a number of Russian officials. Please note that the Latvian side was warned in advance about this. Therefore, the arrival of this deputy can only be regarded as pursuing provocative aims.
