Ahead of the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, which is commemorated on 24 April, as per Resolution 73/127 of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Head of Mission of China to the EU H.E. Mr. Fu Cong, Head of Mission of Cuba to the EU H.E. Ms. Yaira Jiménez Roig, Head of Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the EU H.E. Mr. G.Hossein Dehghani, Сhargé d'Affaires a.i. of Mission of Nicaragua to the EU Mr. Cesar Castaňeda, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Mission of Russia to the EU Mr. Kirill Logvinov, Сhargé d'Affaires a.i. of Mission of Syria to the EU Mr. Ammar Al-Arsan and Сhargé d'Affaires a.i. of Mission of Venezuela to the EU H.E. Mr. Jorge Valero had an informal meeting in Brussels on April 18.
An in-depth exchange of views was held on topical issues on the global agenda, focusing, among others, on the necessity of defending multilateralism, as well as the unacceptability of diluting the central role of the UN in the multilateral system. The illegality of use of unilateral coercive measures was stressed.
The participants expressed their strong commitment to continue strengthening multilateralism and promoting just and equitable world order, based on respect for international law and the sovereign choice of one’s own development path.
The officials agreed to continue regular discussions in Brussels.
