The meeting of the «European Club» devoted to the development of Russia-EU cooperation in the area of culture was held in Brussels on 22 March 2011
on the margins of the Working Group meeting of the Russia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC). Members of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and of the European Parliament, Mr. Vladimir Chizhov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU, Mr. Oleg Chirkunov, Governor of the Perm region, representatives of the European Commission, public and political figures of the EU and Belgium, representatives of organizations of Russian compatriots were among the participants.
Mr. Vladimir Chizhov emphasized in his speech that the development of Russia-EU practical cooperation in the field of culture would give a new impetus to further development of the strategic partnership between Russia and the EU.
Other speakers were Mr. Andrey Klimov, Chairman of the Board of the «European Club», Co-Chairman of the Russia-EU PCC, Deputy Chairman
of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jan Truszczyński, Director General of the European Commission for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Ms Natalia Dementyeva, Member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Ms Maria Badia i Cutchet and Mr. Knut Fleckenstein, Members of the European Parliament.
Mr. O.Chirkunov presented the project “Perm – cultural capital of Europe”.
