A regular meeting of Coordinators of the Russia-EU Energy Dialogue, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergei Shmatko and European Commissioner on Energy Gunther Oettinger took place in Brussels on 25 May 2011.
The discussion focused mainly on nuclear safety issues, including those related to carrying out stress-tests of nuclear power plants. The Parties agreed to start joint work on this track and determined a number of practical steps to be undertaken in the nearest future.
Issues related to functioning of energy markets on the European continent, development of gas and electric infrastructure, elaboration of joint documents on strengthening the legal basis of cooperation between Russia and the European Union in the energy sphere were also raised at the meeting. Other topical questions within the framework of the Russia-EU Energy Dialogue were discussed.
