On 16 December a meeting between Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and EU Foreign Ministers, as well as EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy /Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton took place in Brussels in the framework of the Russia-EU political dialogue.
The Parties discussed a number of topical issues of Russia-EU relations in the context of the upcoming Russia-EU summit. Particular attention was given to such priority issues as progress towards a visa-free travel regime for Russian and EU citizens, trade and energy cooperation and strengthening of political dialogue mechanisms.
The interlocutors held a substantive exchange of views on a number of international problems, including the situation in Syria and the preparation for the Geneva-2 Conference.
They also addressed the EU policy in the context of the Eastern Partnership project implementation, including the situation around Ukraine.
