First meeting of the Economic Council under the Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community

On 14 December 2016 the Permanent Mission of Russia to the EU hosted the first meeting of the Economic Council under the Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community. It was attended by heads of local branches of major Russian companies and representatives of state enterprises operating in the EU (including Aeroflot, Alrosa, Gazprom, Inter RAO, Lukoil, Mechel, Rostec, etc).

Permanent Representative Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov briefed members of the Council on the general dynamic of Russia-EU cooperation. He stressed the negative impact on the development of economic relations of the unilateral EU sanctions against Russia, and their direct impact on both Russian and EU producers, exporters and investors.

The participants discussed main problems and possible ways of improving the business climate in the current political environment.

The Economic Council under the Russian Permanent Representative has been established as a platform to discuss with representatives of the Russian business community the state of affairs and perspectives of Russia-EU economic interaction, as well as problems Russian businesses are facing in the EU. Its members include leading Russian companies and state enterprises represented in EU Member States.
