The Fifth Joint seminar of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) dedicated to the issues of agriculture and food safety was held in Moscow on 25-26 June 2012.
Secretary of the Civic Chamber Evgheni Velikhov, President of the EESC Staffan Nilsson, officials from interested Russian ministries and agencies and the European Commission, as well as representatives of a number of NGOs addressed the seminar. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko sent a message of greetings to the participants.
The seminar discussed the full range of Russia-EU relations, the place and the role of civil society, the progress of negotiations on the New Basic Russia-EU agreement. It was mentioned that enhancement of economic ties, promotion of global competitiveness of Russia and European Union, consistent advance towards a Europe without dividing lines and visa barriers – all these issues should always be in the focus of attention of the civil society.
