On 7-9 October 2013 Deputy Minister of Regional Development of the Russian Federation Sergey Vakhrukov visited Brussels to participate in the 11th European Week of Regions and Cities “Open Days”.
Sergey Vakhrukov delivered a keynote speech at the seminar “Overcoming the Deep Divide: International Experience in Promoting Integration and Socio-economic Development within Cities and across Borders”.
A meeting also took place between Sergey Vakhrukov and the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn. They assessed positively the work being carried out in the framework of the Russia-EU Regional Policy Dialogue and confirmed mutual interest in preparing new cross-border cooperation programmes between Russia and the European Union for 2014-2020. It was agreed to enhance Russia-EU cooperation in the Baltic region on the basis of making use of the synergy of the potentials of the Russian Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of the North-Western Federal District for the period until 2020 and the Baltic Strategy of the EU.
