On 1 April Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Syromolotov met Deputy Secretary General of the EEAS Pedro Serrano and EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove in Brussels.

Parties had a substantial exchange of views on topical issues of the Russia-EU dialogue on counter-terrorism. There was an in-depth discussion on prospects of pragmatic cooperation between Russia and the European Union in countering the threat posed by ISIL, combatting foreign terrorist fighters, radicalisation and violent extremism, cutting off sources of terrorism financing, as well as some aspects of ensuring aviation security.

It was reaffirmed that Russia and the EU have close approaches as to the need for the whole international community to join efforts in fighting against the global terrorism threat on the basis of international law, the UN Charter and related UN SC resolutions.

The meeting with the EU officials on counter-terrorism was held in a constructive atmosphere and welcomed by both parties as mutually beneficial. It was agreed to continue the contacts.
