On 29 November Deputy Foreign Minister Alexey Meshkov held consultations in Brussels with Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard. The consultations took place in the format of Russia-EU Political Directors. Mr Meshkov also met on the same day with Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid.

The parties had a detailed discussion on the current state of Russia-EU cooperation and its prospects. They focused on the need to maintain dialogue on issues of mutual interest. First of all, this concerns the settlement of the situation around the crises in Syria and Ukraine, combating international terrorism and illegal drug trafficking, maintaining migration dialogue and addressing a number of sectoral issues. Mr Meshkov stressed that despite a difficult period in our relations, Russia was interested in the European Union as a united, stable and predictable partner, and would like to expand equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with it.

In addition, the parties exchanged opinions on the most topical issues of the international agenda.
