Cooperation with the European Police College

On 27-28 November 2013 Moscow hosted Russia-European Police College (CEPOL) Conference devoted to development of cooperation in the area of ensuring security at major international sports events. Participants from the Russian Federation included Mr. S.Gerasimov, Deputy Minister of Interior, heads of departments of the central office and territorial bodies of the Ministry of Interior, as well as police training institutions. The European Union was represented by Dr. F.Banfi, Director of CEPOL, officials from the EU Delegation to the Russian Federation, heads of police units in charge of public security and police training institutions from several European countries, as well as by experts of EU law enforcement agencies.

A lively and interesting exchange of opinions on ways and methods of ensuring security at international sports events and of enhancing law enforcement cooperation in this area took place at the Conference. Participants discussed relevant experience in this sphere of Austria, France, Greece, Poland, Switzerland and UK. Particular interest was shown by the EU partners towards presentations by experts of the Ministry of Interior of the Russian Federation on policies and approaches to maintaining public order in locations where such events are held. They also briefed participants of the Conference on security measures planned for the Winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi.

On the margins of the Conference Working Arrangements between Academy for Management of the Ministry of Interior of the Russian Federation and CEPOL were signed. The document will provide for the mechanism to further enhance cooperation in the area of professional training of law enforcement personnel.
