Comment by the Russian Permanent Mission to the EU for TASS News Agency regarding the Schuman Security and Defence Forum to Be Held in Brussels

We view the Schuman Security and Defence Forum to be held in Brussels on 20-21 March 2023 through the lens of anti-Russian rhetoric dominating the EU foreign policy. Initially, the EU was sure it would succeed in isolating Russia in the international arena. However, Brussels did not manage to achieve this immediately in an "all at once" way. Well, it could not have, by definition. Now the EU seems to have "become smarter" and is betting on forming different "coalitions" based on anti-Russian principles, under the guise of an allegedly unifying agenda. Whereas the European political community is cemented by certain "democratic values", this time the focus is on security issues. Yet, given the current geopolitical environment and the goal set by the EU to inflict a strategic defeat on our country, it is naive to assume that the key topic of the forthcoming forum will be the security threats of real concern to the international community rather than the issue of artificial confrontation with Russia. We are convinced that another attempt by the European Union to impose a distorted view of the processes taking place in the world on third countries that value autonomy in their foreign policy actions is doomed to failure.
