Comment by the Information and Press Department of the Russian MFA on Russia’s response list of officials from EU member countries and European institutions that are banned from entering the Russian Federation

The European Union (EU) has recently adopted unilateral restrictive measures as regards several Russian citizens based on groundless and sometimes absurd accusations against our compatriots.

The Russian Federation has repeatedly warned the EU against using the instrument of unilateral sanctions, which contradicts international law. Following the EU decisions, it openly declared that Russia reserved the right toe respond in kind.

In this context, Russia has decided to expand its response list of the officials from EU member countries and European institutions that are banned from entering its territory. The number of officials on the Russian list has been brought to parity with the EU list.

Relevant restrictions were imposed in line with Federal Law No.114-FZ of August 15, 1996 On the Procedure of Exiting and Entering the Russian Federation.

The Foreign Ministry’s note on this move has been sent to the EU Delegation in Russia in accordance with the established procedure.
