Question: The EU summit of 27 June 2024 appointed heads of EU institutions. What can we expect from the tandem of Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas in the EU executive bodies, who adhere to aggressively anti-Russian positions?

Answer: Our forecast has proved right. The decision taken by the leaders of the EU Member States shows that the existing EU political system led by Ursula von der Leyen has successfully passed the second stress test in a row, the first being the recent European Parliament elections. The success was kind of facilitated by consolidation of European capitals under the pretext of the so-called "Russian threat" and the changed geopolitical context. This will be the basis for further centralisation of power in the hands of the Eurobureaucracy and its de facto usurpation by the Brussels institutions to the detriment of the national interests of the Member States. Thus, the self-destruction of the EU will continue.

The behind-the-scenes political hype that preceded this decision was just interesting to follow. At the present historical stage, we do not, by and large, care who will be in the leadership of an organisation whose vital ambition is to inflict a strategic defeat on our country and which has deliberately opted for a long-term confrontation with Moscow. Basically, any talk about who would be better or worse for us has lost all sense. One more or one less Russophobe in the EU leadership would not change much. For the next five years at least, the European Union headed by Ursula von der Leyen will pursue a course of complete isolation from Russia.
