The 17th meeting of the Russia-EU Joint Committee on Readmission took place on 4 October 2017 in Brussels. The Russian delegation included representatives of the Main Directorate for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission to the EU. Officials from the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, the European External Action Service and representatives of a number of EU Member States participated on the EU side.
Both parties reiterated that the 2006 Russia-EU Readmission Agreement remains an important and effective instrument of combating illegal migration. An in-depth discussion was held on practical aspects of cooperation in this field.
It was agreed to hold the next meeting of the Russia-EU Joint Committee on Readmission in Moscow in the second half of 2018.
